TWO INTERESTING ‘NEW’ ITEMS ADDED TO THE MONASH UNIVERSITY LIBRARY’S RARE BOOKS COLLECTION: The first is a brochure for an indoor golf game:-
“Schoenhut’s indoor golf. The greatest game of the 20th century,” an American indoor golf game brochure from 1922. At the end of each golf club was a manikin who played the strokes. Their names were “Tommy Green,” for male players, and “Sissie Lofter,” for female players.”
The second is the latest addition to the Monash Rare Books sheet music collection.
Jack O’Hagan’s tribute to Amy Johnson – the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia. She left London 5 May 1930 and arrived Darwin 24 May. Jack O’Hagan was a prolific composer. We have many more of his songs including his tribute to Kingsford Smith, “Kingsford Smith Aussie is proud of you,” (1928), “Our Don Bradman, a snappy fox trot song,” (1930), as well as his “Snake Gully Swagger,” (1939) and his most famous song, “Where the dog sits on the tucker-box.” (1938).
