Mango Season – Great Time for Collecting Fruit Labels

Fruit, mangoes +++, 2015, BedeThis is a good mango season – so says the fruiterer offering $15 a box.

In 2015, it was a great season for those who collect thumbnail size ephemeral stickers from the fruit displays in Melbourne. We found 20 different labels – a couple for the same suppliers – in a thorough but not exhaustive search this morning, 17 January 2015.

Here are a few favourites from 2015:

'Cool mangoes', 2.5 x 2 cm, 2015. Collection of Mandy B.
‘Cool mangoes’, 2.5 x 2 cm, 2015.

'Top Pin', Dimbuluh Mangoes, 1.5 x 2.5 cm, 2015. Collection of Mandy B.
‘Top Pin’, Dimbulah Mangoes, 1.5 x 2.5 cm, 2015.

Looks like mangoes are a secondary crop at Dimbulah. This is a town about 100 kilometres from Cairns with a population of about 1,500.  Hope there are more in picking season.

Mangoes = tropics

'Crocodile's choice', 2 x 2.5 cm, 2015. Collection of Mandy B.
‘Crocodile’s choice’, 2 x 2.5 cm, 2015.

'Longmile mangoes', 1.5 x 2.5 cm, 2015. Collection of Mandy B.
‘Longmile mangoes’, 1.5 x 2.5 cm, 2015.

Simply celebrating the fruit’s unique shape and signature colour

'Kensington Pride', 1.5 x 2.5 cm, 2015. Collection of Mandy B.
‘Kensington Pride’, 1.5 x 2.5 cm, 2015.

Kensington Pride is a mango cultivar; it is the dominant mango in the local market. About 80% of the mangoes eaten here are Kensington Pride also known as K.P. and Bowen.

'Mareeba Mangoes', 2 cm circle, 2015. Collection of Mandy B.

    Hello Alessandro,
I collect fruit stickers. We have the occasional Pineapple tag, so I am happy to swap when I get a duplicate. It is probably best if I scan and email before sending it in the mail, in case you already have it.
    Regards
    John

  • Thanks Jacques, I would be happy to send you some – what is your postal address?

  • Hi! I also collect fruit labels from around the world, any chance we can get to exchange?

  • Hello!

I was very happy to see that there are other folks out there that collect mango labels! I do collect ALL varieties of fruit labels, but mangoes are my “go to” favorite! Mostly because they tend to be the most colorful, and also have a relatively decent amount of labels that have escaped the dreaded UPC bar codes that have dominated a large chunk of the fruit label kingdom!

Would you be interested in trading labels? (mango for mango?) I live in the New England area of the United States and have been able to find many different labels, as well as variations of labels on a weekly basis.

Please feel free to contact me if you are interested! If we do strike up a trade, I can supply crisp photos & scans of the dupes that I have for trade.

I hope your label hunts are fruitful!

    Best Regards,
    George

  • Hi George

I’m the mango label collector and I’m pretty focussed on Australia (worked at the State Library here in Victoria where focus is on local) as is our fruit and veg eating generally.

But I’m happy to send you some recently collected labels. I pick them from the fruit at the Queen Vic market https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Victoria_Market most weeks, so I can get plenty.
So what is the best address to send them to?

    Regards
