LAST SHOW & TELL 13/2/15,  AT CAMBERWELL LIBRARY MEETING ROOMS.

About 12 members gathered at Camberwell Library Meeting Rooms. It was a treat. We saw and discussed the following:

– a bound set of postcards, each card showing the coins of a country, with exchange rates. A bit of detective work noted that some coins were dated late 1890s; the date was sharpened as the USA page had a picture of President Taft, meaning the book dated from 1904-1908. A couple of people had seen the individual cards but not the bound set. It was purchased at an op shop;

– a collection of Air India figurines, fans, booklets for and about passengers, menus, luggage labels, travel bag and more;

– Australian designed wrapping paper;

– chemist ephemera – medication envelopes, blotters, a calendar;

– a collection relating to the Duke of Wellington – an early portrait,

– some postal history;

– two beer bottles with papier mâché faces. The question was – is this one person’s hobby or a couple of examples of a well known craft? Views tended to the latter;

– A series of recent finds – two boxing cards – front had paintings of the boxers, verso had their fight records; handmade cards from a well known cartoonist; an advertisement featuring Australian cricketers led by Woodfull;

– an aunt’s photo album; a lovely album for postcards (cards removed);

– a collection inspired by a find in a garden bed – a series of collectables including ‘tools’ for removing and managing foil milk bottle tops; a Ken Cato designed early milk carton. An aluminium mystery object was found but it’s purpose beat all those present.

Fascinating night, which wound up about 9ish. Sorry no pictures.
