About Philip Moorhouse

Philip has been collecting most of his life, and a passionate collector of wooden type fonts for many years.

An essential at every print shop for 120 years, by the 1950s, wood type was obsolescent, and largely burnt or thrown out by printers. Nevertheless, Philip has built up a collection of over 500 different fonts. (to the best of his knowledge, the largest in Australia.)

As his collection grew, two things became apparent several years ago:

– the need to catalogue and organise it

– the desire to share it with other collectors, mostly in the UK and USA.

So combining his interest in collecting with his passion for the internet, he set to work designing a website. Then other collector friends became interested, and so he changed the design to a blank, customisable, website template suitable for every collector to showcase their collection online, and www.thecollectingbug.com was born.

What will Philip have at the Ephemera Fair?

The website is now in its final beta testing before release, and Philip will be demonstrating it at the Ephemera Fair on Oct 19th.

If you have ever considered a website for your collection, and then abandoned the idea as too difficult or too expensive, read this next part carefully… Philip is interested in speaking with any ESA members who would like to put their collections online as part of the final beta testing. This will mean it is FREE, (yes, you read that correctly), and you will be guided through it step by step.

Philip will be demonstrating the live website, and have full details for any interested collectors. (And if you can’t make it to the Fair, contact him directly on the website, and mention you saw it on the ESA website).
