Ephemera of internment

Cat walk at Berrrima camp, German internees postcard, WW1

Zooming in on internment Monday 1 May, 7pm (Eastern standard time)

Ed Jewell has been collecting ephemera and items relating to internment of enemy aliens and prisoners of war in Australia in the First and Second World Wars for about twenty five years. His smallish collection is a testament to the scarcity of the material.

Ed’s interest in internment items is a logical offshoot to his wide ranging collection of the ephemera of social history. His collection includes other ephemera about the effects of those two wars in Australia, including fund raising, recruitment, propaganda etc.

The talk will range across items produced in the major internment camps with an emphasis on postcards and photographic images, newsletters produced by internees, entertainment items and paper ephemera relating to the administration of the camps.

Dial in to the presentation – we will send out the invitation by email on 14 April 2023. The presentation will be about 40 minutes with time for discussion at the end. All welcome.

Postponement of radio ephemera talk

Unfortunately, we have to delay the zoom session on Ian G’s wonderful collection of all things radio related. We expect to see the highlights and breadth of this collection later in 2023.
