Nylex 2553

CAN ANYONE HELP WITH MORE INFORMATION about this Nylex toy? It is numbered 2553.

According to an entry on the Museums Victoria site Nylex originally manufactured toys as

Playmate Toys, Moulded Products (Australasia) Ltd. Moulded Products (later known as Nylex) produced various designs of plastic toys in Mentone, Victoria and Sydney, New South Wales. They were sold “in large quantities” in the late 1950s and 1960s, first under the “Duperite”, then under the “Playmate” trademark. To improve the unpleasant smell and taste of the plastic, vanilla was added to it.

The museum’s notes relates to a much more elaborate toy – painted in four colours – with limbs (hands and feet) albeit moulded in one piece. If it is right that Playmate Toys were a precursor to Nylex, then the koala is likely to date from the 1960s. Any thoughts on this?

The Nylex logo might assist the dating? The number 2553 might have some significance. Is anyone able to throw light on this?
