Still thinking about Australia Day

Extract from the Wangaratta chronicle 31 July 1915:

Yesterday was celebrated as Australia Day. In Wangaratta a number of ladies were busy selling flags, buttons, badges, and other mementoes and they they disposed of a large quantity of these articles. Souvenirs that found a ready sale were Australian gum leaves, and had painted on them the words “Gallipoli” or Dardanelles,” while others had an outline of Australia, and the flag. These were prepared by Mesdames H. A. Murdoch, J, Tweed, and H, J. Hicks. The demand was so heavy that the large supply gave out soon after mid-day, and the ladles had to set to and prepare another batch. It is expected that a large sum will be realised from the sales of these souvenirs.
